Dear Mason Crest Families,

We hope that you are having a wonderful summer!  We wanted to put some important dates on your calendar for this upcoming school year and provide information about the early release Monday dates.  Mason Crest will release at 12:55 p.m. on these days.

  Some other important dates for this upcoming Fall are:

  • Kindergarten Jumpstart (Incoming Kindergarteners Get a Jumpstart to the School Year): August 5-8; 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Kindergarten Playdate (Incoming Kindergarteners): Thursday, August 8; 12:45-1:45 p.m.
  • Welcome Walk (Mason Crest Teachers will greet students at their homes): Tuesday, August 13; 5:00-7:30 p.m.
  • Open House (Families Come Visit their Classrooms): Friday, August 16; 1:00-2:00 p.m.

  We are looking forward to a great school year!  Please let us know if you have any questions.

Early Release Mondays

Mason Crest will have early release Mondays on the following dates. We will dismiss at 12:55 p.m. on these days.  More information can be found here.

Kindergarten Registration

Do you have or know a child that is five years old or will be turning five by September 30, 2024? If you do, please register them for Kindergarten at your earliest opportunity. To start the process you can either visit THIS FCPS SITE or stop by the Mason Crest Elementary School office. Please also share this information with anyone in our neighborhood who may have a child that is ready to start Kindergarten in August. We can't wait to meet all our new Tigers!

Summer Meals

As part of its efforts to ensure children have access to healthy meals during the summer months, Fairfax County Public Schools is pleased to announce it will be participating in the Summer Food Service Program.  Summer meals are available on July 1st to July 26th from 9:00-10:00 a.m. and 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Mason Crest Elementary each day.

Dear Mason Crest Families,

We hope you are enjoying your summer so far and are finding ways to rest, relax, and refresh with friends and family. Our office hours from June 24-July 12 will be 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. If you need to come at a time outside of that window, please call the school and we can schedule an appointment for you.

Summer Reading Challenge

We encourage students to read over the summer. Mason Crest is offering some opportunities for students to read and earn prizes! Please see the BINGO boards below and see how many squares you can fill and bring the form back to Ms. Lingler in the library. Happy Reading!

Congratulations Class of 2024

Field Day Reminder

We will be holding our Olympics Field Day tomorrow, Friday, June 7th. Please have your students wear their house shirts and tennis shoes. We will be outside for several hours so we also recommend hats, sunscreen, and water bottles. We are looking forward to celebrating the end of the school year and having some fun! If you have any questions, please contact our PE team.

📈 SOL Scores Posted in SIS ParentVUE

Families can find Standards of Learning (SOL) reports for spring testing in the SIS ParentVUE Documents section on or before the last day of school. Log in to your ParentVUE account to access the following:

  • For all students – the official SOL Score Report with overall and reporting category performance for all spring tests.
  • For grade 3-8 students – the SOL Growth Parent Report shows performance over time for state reading and math tests completed this school year.

If you have any questions or issues, reach out to administration.

Lost and Found

Please check out the Lost and Found in the cafeteria before you head into summer break. There are many sweatshirts, water bottles, and lunch boxes. We will be donating all remaining items on the last day of school. Thank you!

Library Returns

If your child has a library book at home, please have them return it as soon as possible. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Ms. Lingler so she can check them in for the summer.

Summer Camps

Chantilly Academy will host an AFA CyberCamp from Monday, June 24, to Friday, June 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. This camp would be a great fit for rising fifth through eighth graders of all skill levels interested in learning more about the importance of cybersecurity and gaining skills to protect themselves and others from cyber threats. Discounts are available for students eligible for free and reduced-price meals. Visit the camp website for more information.

Registration is also still available for the Institute for the Arts (IFTA) and Elementary-IFTA (E-IFTA) arts camps.

The Family Resource Center has also created a list of dozens of summer camps:LINK

They’ve also prepared a list of adapted resources, sorted by activity, that are inclusive for children and adults of various physical abilities.

Family Field Trip to Hidden Oaks Nature Center

We are excited to report that all 110 spots for our Family Field Trip this weekend are filled! If you previously registered and can no longer attend, please contact Liz Denman at [email protected] or call the front office at 571-226-2600 so we can remove you from the list and add someone from the waitlist. We are looking forward to seeing our Mason Crest community at Hidden Oaks this Saturday!

Community Picnic

On Friday, May 31 at 5:00 p.m., bring a picnic, blanket, and chairs and enjoy being outside with Mason Crest families and staff.

A Kona Ice Truck will be on site to sell snow cones for dessert! Looking forward to celebrating the end of the year and all our accomplishments.

Message from the Clinic

Reminder to parents that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than 2:00 p.m. on the last day of school, June 12. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our school health aide, Ms. Judi at [email protected]

Dear Families,

Thank you to our students, families, and PTO for recognizing our staff last week during Teacher Appreciation Week. The staff truly felt special as they enjoyed treats throughout the week, massages, lunch from Cafe Rio and a breakfast from Panera. We also want to thank families for sending notes and positive emails to recognize staff for all their hard work this year. 

We greatly appreciate the Mason Crest community and feel honored to be a part of it!

SOL Testing Dates

End of the year testing for students in grades 3-5, runs through the month of May. We ask that you do your best to ensure your child comes to school on the day of their scheduled test well rested and ready to do their best. Please try to schedule appointments and travel around your child's test schedule.

The schedule is as follows and we will be sure to update grade levels if changes are made:

May 9: 5th Grade Reading

May 14: 3rd Grade Reading

May 15: 4th Grade Reading

May 16: 5th Grade Science

May 20: 5th and 6th Grade Math

PTO Meeting

Please join us for our next PTO meeting on Tuesday, April 16 at 6:00 p.m. in the library. If you would rather join virtually, you may use the following Zoom link

Ms. Mathews our Get 2 Green and Garden Club coordinator will be sharing about upcoming Earth Week events and ways to get involved at Mason Crest. She will also highlight what we are doing at Mason Crest to be more mindful of our environment. Childcare and pizza will be provided. We hope you can join us!

Earth Week

To celebrate Earth Day, Mason Crest will be participating in an Earth Spirit Week. Students will be encouraged to wear certain colors throughout the week to remind us of how we can care for our environment and encourage positive habits.  Classes will have the opportunity to plant seeds and trees in our garden and classrooms. We hope you can join us in celebrating our Earth!
